The first product introduced by MakoLab to the Polish market was HyperChem, developed by Hypercube Inc. Its distribution began in 1992. The software realizes tasks of molecular modeling. It still remains up-to-date and is constantly developed. HyperChem has a vast number of users – predominantly on universities. It enables students and academic researchers to reach closer to the technologies of computational chemistry (particularly quantum chemistry) and to appreciate the potential that lies in this branch of chemistry.
Since we became aware of the huge demand for software supporting analytical chemistry and pharmacology, in 2001 we began close cooperation with ACD/Labs Inc. In Poland, the company is well-known thanks to the ACD/ChemSketch application, which is used by many universities. It enables to perceive chemistry on a molecular level and easily create drawings containing virtually all combinations of chemical apparatus. ACD/Labs Inc. provides many solutions in three areas. The first one includes software for processing of analytic data (NMR, UV-IR, Raman, Chromatography, MS, TG, TGA and many more). These applications have a number of useful functions, such as creation and searching among experiment databases or simulation of spectrums. They provide the capacity to develop solutions perfectly adjusted to the client’s needs. The second group consists of applications used for accelerating processes of computing of analytic methods (e.g. optimization of chromatographic separations). The last group includes products dedicated to the pharmaceutical industry. They were developed in cooperation with ACD/Labs Inc. and Pharma Algorithms Inc. (the company is now part of ACD/Labs Inc.). Thanks to these solutions, it is possible to compute physicochemical parameters, conduct simulations of ADME properties and test a substance’s toxicity.
The ACD/Name application is also worth mentioning. We are certain that it is the best available application for generating and processing chemical nomenclature. The confirmation of this is the agreement signed between ACD/Labs Inc. and the European Union that is to result in development of high performance algorithms for naming and translating chemical terms into any European language, including Polish. The products of ACD/Labs Inc. gained significant recognition and enjoy the acclaim of pharmaceutical companies and the chemical industry. Their presence became indispensible in national research facilities and on universities. Another group of popular and successful products includes the applications of CambridgeSoft Inc.. Products from the ChemOffice family allow for comfortable and intuitive work on diverse problems of chemistry. Among their useful functionalities, one should enumerate integration with the Statistica application, or the capability to preview 3D images using special glasses, as well as modules allowing for naming of chemical compounds in English. Another interesting developer of software provided by MakoLab Science is ChemAxon. The company provides solutions allowing for creating chemical databases. One of their interesting capabilities is integration with Microsoft Excel. Moreover, applications of this developer allow for estimation of certain physicochemical properties of substances, drawing of structural formulas and generation of nomenclature.
At present, we also cooperate with companies less known in Poland, such as FDM Inc.. This developer provides databases of referential spectrums for spectral techniques such as UV, Ir or Raman. Reaching beyond the domain of chemistry, we have extended our offer with products of such companies as Intel Inc. – providing highly specialized developer tools with extensive libraries. Atlas.ti offers a comprehensive suite for quantitative analysis of all kinds of data (text, audio, video, graphics). Xara Group Ltd. is a developer of the excellent graphical suite that may compete with the well-known Corel applications. We are open towards any suggestions pertaining to extension of the offer of software available via <MakoLab S.A. Science>. We inform the developers about propositions regarding new functionalities, and at the same time cooperate in development of new versions of the software.
